Hotel Review: Hyatt Regency Aruba Resort Spa and Casino
Traveling to Aruba? Answering Your Questions from One to Ten
The fitness center at the Hyatt Regency Aruba is well-stocked with a good selection of machines and equipment, primarily manufactured by Life Fitness. There are cardio machines in the front of the gym, and circuit strength machines in the back of the gym. The facility has sufficient air and light, and it is constantly cleaned by hotel staff.
There were stationary bikes located outside the gym on a small patio. Although I really like when hotels put fitness equipment outdoors, these bikes seemed a little dated and in need of some repair. I longed for a Peloton bike.
There is also another room, with a separate entrance, across the hall from this room, which has free weights and kettle bells.
Unsurprisingly, the chief activity at the hotel centers around the pools. The pools were previously covered in the Hotel Review post. In addition, each day, there are posted daily activities at the pools and around the hotel. Some of these activities are wellness focused – such as yoga and meditation classes.
The hotel has a spa, the ZoiA Spa, but I never had a chance to go there.
By sheer coincidence, the Aruba Marathon, sponsored by KLM, took place while I was on the island. There was an evening 5K on Saturday, June 3rd, and a full marathon, half marathon and 10K early the next morning, Sunday, June 4th. I was tempted to sign up, and did walk over to the expo at the Hilton, but ultimately decided against that. I mean the Saturday race would have cut into our Regency Club time, and the Sunday races began as early as . . . gulp. . . 3 a.m.
When I travel, if the location is walkable, that is often my choice of exploration and exercise. Aruba was good for walking, especially if you started walking early in the morning, as temperatures rose each day to well over 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Behind the hotel there was a concrete walkway that ran next to the beach behind many of the hotels in the area. We took this walk many days (helpful hint: Ritz Carlton had cold water and sunscreen out on tables!). We also walked on the main street where the stores, restaurants and hotels were located.
